Establishment of the Center for Spatial and Regional Developments Research in Kurzeme

2. Conference

On September 14-17, 2010 was held the 2nd International Scientific Conference "Spatial Strategy for Sustainable Development".

The conference was devoted to the project "Establishment of the Center for Spatial and Regional Developments Research in Kurzeme" development issues.

Conference aim was to continue the discussion on the following topics:

- Sustainable Spatial Development issues

- Dynamic Modeling of Spatial Development

- Quality of Life.

The conference launched a round-table discussion, dedicated to spatial planning educational and scientific issues. The discussion was attended by representatives from Latvian universities, as well as guests from Norway, Germany and Lithuania. Discussion was put forward the idea of a single spatial planning educational and scientific organization of the Latvian and Baltic countries.

Senior researcher Dr.arch. L. Kartunova presented results of the research serminārā "Geophysical factors on demographic processes and the human living environment, spatial organization", which called interest and questions from the conference participans side.

The second day of the conference dedicated to the overall scientific problems, which broke out prof. N. Kabashkin report about the transport development problems and prof.E. Karnīša report about the quality of life in Latvia.

Third day was dedicated to the sustainable development strategies at various levels - in Europe, Latvian, regions and counties, as well as the Riga City development problems. Reports showed problems in the practice of spatial planning and the need to look for a new approach for spatial development challenges, which is based on the System approach. This was evidenced by the report of K. Rasa about Kuldiga district development strategy.

The fourth day was devoted to systems thinking and dynamic modeling. Were screened Kuldiga county mental model of sustainable development, as well as systemdynamic model and separate functional modules (population, environment, economy, tourism, transport). The summary report presented Dr.sc.eng. A. Lektauers.

The conference was devoted to the project "Establishment of the Center for Spatial and Regional Developments Research in Kurzeme" development issues. SSSD 2010

At the conference was discussed and positively evaluated TURAP Centre interim results of the study. The research will be continued and in 2011will be a third conference, where will be presented and discussed the final results of research - Kuldiga district systemdynamic sustainable development model.
